I am in a season of returning back to creative flow.
In The Artist’s Way, Julia Cameron emphasizes the need for a sort of creative “reservoir” that you can tap into when making art.
“As artists, we must learn to be self-nourishing. We must become alert enough to consciously replenish our creative resources as we draw on them..
I call this process filling the well.”
3 ways I’m filling the well this week:
Movies- not just flipping through streaming services to have something random playing in the background, but instead choosing a film -with intention- that draws me in and inspires me.
Music- or more specifically: listening to music, making playlists for different moods, and allowing myself to revel in the sounds and rhythms.
Piano- because of how Dystonia affects my body (especially my hands and arms), I only go to the keys for fun. And because it’s solely for pleasure, I feel free to play and experiment.
The key is intention.
Watching a film or listening to music can be background noise or it can be immersive, expansive.
In my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with background noise or vegging out.
And also, when my goal is to feel inspired to create more art, I need to bring intention and attention to my day.
What might you bring more attention or intention to this week?
Until soon,
Riv
