It’s hard to disconnect from online spaces these days (for a lot of reasons).
But, one of my ongoing goals is to connect more with the tangible world.
Besides painting, here are a few ways I’ve been spending my time in 3D-land:
Creative Writing
Movement
Tarot
It’s been many, MANY years since I last explored creative writing and I didn’t realize just how much I missed it!
I continually have to remind myself that it’s okay to pursue hobbies that don’t have the (immediate) potential to earn money.
In fact, it’s really helpful for me to be able to divide my day between vocational tasks and just-for-fun activities.
Physical movement is super important to me, in particular as someone with a movement disorder.
In the last month, I have connected with a Pilates instructor and was gifted an exercise bike for my birthday!
I greatly appreciate having more access to movement and exercise.
Finally, I’ve been indulging in my tarot hobby.
Similar to writing, I have to remind myself that it’s okay to be in learning mode, and that I don’t have to try to monetize every pursuit.
Unfortunately, I also find myself coming up against trauma with this particular interest. I may share the story on Patreon in a future post.
The common thread with all these offline activities is:
I have to remind myself it’s okay to practice, it’s okay to pursue interests without needing to share every step or try to monetize, and I’m allowed to seek out and experience pleasure in life.
Before I go, I’ll share a card that popped up this week:
I love the idea of a serene, beautiful, sacred space to play music or create art in nature.
However, the tree coming up through the piano always bothered me; how can the instrument still be functional with a whole tree trunk in the middle of it?
But this space is sacred, and there is magic in the sacred.
And with magic, anything is possible.
Until soon,
Riv
