As the wild storms of the previous week seem to have ushered in Spring, I feel a familiar itch to get moving.
Warmer weather and buds on the trees certainly entice me to get out more.
And also..
I continue to navigate my health conditions -mental and physical- which require quite a lot of rest.
In a way, winter is easier for me: everyone feels the urge to hibernate or slow down and therefore I feel slightly less out of place.
By the time spring (and certainly summer) comes around, most people are picking up the pace.. and I am left slogging through the dust.
Although the feeling may be more extreme for someone with chronic illness or disability, I sense that nondisabled people may also understand or experience this from time to time.
Maybe you have suffered a recent loss, or a temporary injury or illness is slowing you down; maybe you just happen to be low energy or feel a bit down.
And yet you are expected, it is demanded of you, to keep pace.
Perhaps this constant “go, go, GO!” pressure does not serve most people.
Perhaps, we should seek more ease (even when Spring Fever hits).
A few questions I’m asking myself this week:
in what way can I rest with intention? (rather than huddling in a corner scrolling through my phone for example)
have I checked in with my body today?
what type of movement would feel really good right now? (stretching, walking outside, dancing to a favorite song or playlist...)
Wishing you an easeful week,
Riv
